Natural whetstone Awasedo 7 000 – 8 000

The Honyama quarry was renowned for centuries as a source of the finest and most significant natural sharpening stones. Its operations were shut down 60 years ago, like most stone quarries in Japan. Only small remnants of old stock remain available today. The strong demand for Japanese natural stones in recent decades has, naturally, depleted these stocks and driven prices up.

Here we offer a rarity: a green Awasedo with a grit rating of 7000+, meaning the coarsest sharpening particles are around grit 7000 and the finest approximately 8000. This is a carefully selected natural find in a convenient size, flattened on one side.

This Awasedo is exceptionally pure, which can be seen in its homogeneous color; it is largely free of distinct inclusions.

The stone is medium-hard, making it both efficient and durable.

Due to its dimensions, it is also suitable for finishing larger blades (carbon steel only).
